Understanding how a cell works will help you understand why things can go wrong and create the skin conditions we see every day in clinic or skin care practice. This course will give you a new respect for the cells of the skin and how they are complex, marvellous structures.
The Objective of this course is for the learner to become familiar with each organelle within a cell, and to understand each organelle's function and the role they play in the creation of proteins and lipids. This will be the basis of understanding what may go wrong with cellular function and ultimately reflect as a skin condition. This course is recommended for learners with an advanced level of knowledge of skin anatomy & physiology.
In this short course we provide a overview of the structure of the cell, and explain the various Organelles and their functions. Also discussed are the Cell membranes, the Cytoplasm (internal cell fluids), The Mitochndra and it's DNA, and the structural components of the cell; the Cytoskeleton. We will explore the Ribosomes; remarkable protein producing biological "machines" and the Golgi apparatus; the cell's biomechanical manufacturing systems. Following will be a look at the cells dismantling & recycling facility; the Lysosomes and the complex components that make up the cell nucleus and it's protection mechanisms. The cell is a truly remarkable and complex structure with so many individual compnents working in synergy to ensure a functioning healthy entity. This unit is followed by a sixteen question, multichoice assessment.
